How do I get rid of the smell of thawed fish from my car carpet, Please! Asked by desperate kabikuschi!?

I went shopping on Friday and bought a packet of frozen fish. On Saturday I looked in my refridgerator for the fish and couldn't find any which was strange because I remembered buying fish! It was too late, I had forgotten it in my car!! I now have this dreadful smell of old fish in my car, it's unbearable!! My husband has removed the carpet which was recently replaced but the smell/ stench remains! How can I clean the carpet and how can I get rid of the smell?
